Combatting Challenging Emotions

Emotions that challenge us, can enter our energy and mind when we least expect it and this can be quite frustrating and hard to deal with. So how do we combat these on a day to day basis with success?

The more we feel it, the more we can become affected. However emotions come and go so it is important to remember this. Challenging (negative) emotions can arise from previous traumas, the past and even conditioning (learning) we have encountered growing up.

Emotions can affect us by holding us back and stopping us achieving our full potential due to fear, anxiety, stress and others to name a few! Emotions come up for a reason. They are there to show us where we need to heal, what needs to change and understand ourselves better through being triggered.

They are speaking to us with that loud inner voice and saying- heal your inner child! Sadness can show us a form of loss within ourselves, anger will show us what we will not tolerate and also where we may have been mistreated and fear will show us what we are afraid of and where we need to let go. Challenging emotions arise to show us where our thoughts and energy are not in alignment.

When we don’t deal with our emotions and avoid them, it can cause the trigger and root cause to embed deeper into the subconscious mind- delaying the healing process. We are all here to learn so its useful to recognise what could be hindering us from being happy and more fulfilled.

Sometimes, we can feel like we don’t know why we are emotional or not feeling good. Here’s some useful tips to show you how to positively move forwards:

  • Journal and capture the emotion you feel and any thoughts
  • Notice where you feel it
  • Ask yourself daily why might I feel this way and see what memories and thoughts appear
  • Day by day check in on yourself and you will start to recognise the patterns forming
  • Seek support where needed to help you (friends, family, therapy)
  • Try EFT (emotional freedom tapping)

Emotions are a wave of energy that comes in to show you what’s blocked, your thoughts being out of alignment and highlighting where you need to heal. If people you come across trigger you its because there is something in them that is being shown to you for something in you that needs to be worked on and addressed.

Doing the inner work (addressing triggers, healing- meditation, self-love, reflective work) will help you to transform to a better place with your emotions and in turn will benefit your wellbeing and create positive mental health. We all want to feel good daily and in order to do so we must work on ourselves, love ourselves and be kind to ourselves when challenged. Having an acceptance of the emotions showing up and trying to understand why they are there will help you to move forwards in a way you may not have experienced before.

Love and healing to you all
